Leftist streaming personality Hasan Piker filed a defamation lawsuit Tuesday against conservative commentator Scott Jennings, demanding at least $72.5 million over accusations that Piker supported lynching black Americans, as reported by Breitbart.
The complaint was filed October 27 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Piker is seeking at least $27.5 million in compensatory damages and another $45 million in punitive damages, and he has demanded a jury trial.
The legal battle centers on an August 11 broadcast of The Scott Jennings Show and social media posts that followed. Piker alleges Jennings relied on edited livestream footage and a fabricated quotation to present sarcastic comments as an endorsement of racial violence.

According to the complaint, Jennings did more than mischaracterize Piker’s actual remarks. Piker’s attorneys claim Jennings used a manipulated video, attached words Piker never said, and then presented the resulting accusations to his viewers as established fact.
The complaint says Jennings told viewers to “[l]isten for yourself” while playing footage that Piker’s lawyers describe as falsified. The filing argues that Jennings disregarded the actual language and context of Piker’s comments.
Piker’s attorneys acknowledge that Jennings was entitled to criticize Piker, condemn his politics, or describe his commentary as offensive. They argue, however, that Jennings was not entitled to attribute invented statements to Piker and use those statements as evidence that he supported racially motivated killings.
The dispute traces partly to an October 29, 2024, Twitch broadcast in which Piker watched two black political commentators debate criminal justice policy. According to the filing, one participant was conservative and criticized “woke DAs.”
Piker’s lawyers say he responded by sarcastically portraying that participant as nostalgic for the period before the civil rights movement. They maintain that the broader conversation, including laughter and audience reactions, demonstrated that Piker was criticizing those views rather than endorsing them.
The complaint alleges that a compilation lasting roughly 42 seconds later combined excerpts from three separate broadcasts. According to Piker, the compilation rearranged his remarks and stripped away the context surrounding them.
Jennings played the compilation and added a caption attributing a statement to Piker that read: “LET’S GO BACK TO A BETTER TIME WHEN LYNCHINGS WERE HAPPENING.”
Piker’s lawyers contend that the wording appeared neither in the original Twitch recording nor in the later edited compilation. The complaint alleges that Jennings transformed what had been a sarcastic question into a direct declaration.

After playing the video, Jennings accused Piker of “calling for Black voters to be lynched,” according to the filing. Jennings also referred to “the Piker plan of returning our country to lynchings,” the complaint says.
The accusations did not remain confined to the show. Piker alleges Jennings repeated them online, and the complaint says an X post from Jennings had received approximately 2.5 million views by the date of the filing.

Piker claims the statements caused reputational harm, lost business opportunities, and emotional distress. His attorneys say they sent Jennings a demand for a retraction on August 31, but received no substantive response after Jennings’ attorney acknowledged the letter.
The complaint advances claims for defamation per se and false light invasion of privacy. It also brings defamation by implication as an alternative claim, leaving a jury to confront the fight over the video, its context, and the quotation attributed to Piker.
Jennings, who is identified in the source as a CNN contributor and radio host, is the only defendant named in the case. Piker’s sweeping demand for compensatory and punitive damages now places the bitter dispute squarely before a federal court.
