Immigration and Customs Enforcement fired back after CBS News used its weekend broadcast of “60 Minutes” to spotlight illegal aliens deported under President Donald Trump’s immigration policy. The response was blunt, mocking, and clearly uninterested in playing along with the network’s sympathetic framing, as reported by Townhall.
The CBS segment focused on illegal aliens who were sent from the United States to Ghana. Ghana then reportedly transferred 17 of those illegal aliens to their home countries.
“60 Minutes” emphasized that immigration judges had ruled the illegal aliens could not be sent back to those home nations. The source argued, however, that the United States did not violate those rulings because it sent the individuals to Ghana rather than directly returning them to their countries of origin.
Ghana subsequently enforced its own immigration laws and returned the illegal aliens to their home countries, according to the account.

It was stated that every illegal alien involved had previously been offered an opportunity to self deport. Under that option, each person could receive payment and travel to a nation of his or her choosing.
That choice received little sympathy from the writer, who made clear that Trump’s deportation policy was one of the reasons voters returned him to office in the 2024 election. The author dismissed the emotional approach of the CBS broadcast with a simple message for those removed: “Enjoy the flight”.
One person featured by “60 Minutes” was Moussa Diawara. The CBS segment presented his situation as part of its broader focus on illegal aliens who were first removed to Ghana and later returned elsewhere.
Diawara’s family wants him home and noted that he says he is gay. From those details, the author argued that Diawara’s asylum request was fraudulent and called for the matter to be investigated as possible immigration fraud.
Fake & Gay!
Moussa Diawara, the Malian national featured in this shockingly poorly researched @60Minutes report, now faces allegations of immigration FRAUD after his asylum application surfaced, revealing that he claimed to be a HOMOSEXUAL man who feared persecution in Mali. #FOXEXCLUSIVE: 60 Minutes featured a deported Malian national whose wife and two children spoke about how much they miss him and want him home.
But we exclusively obtained Moussa Diawara’s asylum application, where he said he was seeking asylum in the U.S. because he was gay and feared being killed if sent back. Now, DHS is pointing to his case as an example of alleged immigration fraud. In his own words, Diawara wrote: “Although I was born as a boy, but things appeared differently for me as I was already having female behaviors and feelings.” “I was more comfortable being intimate with boys rather than with girls.” And describing his life after arriving in the United States: “Since I came to the USA I had the possibilities to express my feelings to men without any embarrassment no reserve.” Read the asylum application for yourself: — Brooke Taylor (@Brooketaylortv) October 26, 2026
60 Minutes wants you outraged that Trump deported a man with a final removal order from 2012.
The real scandal is that it took 14 years. Withholding of removal only bars deportation to one country, yet only 1.6% of recipients ever leave - even though they have a final order of removal. I explained how this functions as backdoor amnesty at Natcon last year. This is the same loophole that the Maryland Man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, exploited. Thankfully, Trump is finally ending it. — Will Chamberlain (@willchamberlain) October 27, 2026

The writer also invoked Ilhan Omar while making that demand, asserting that immigration fraud is something she knows about. The source did not provide further details supporting that comparison, instead using it as a pointed political jab within the commentary.
ICE responded to the “60 Minutes” segment by calling it poorly researched, fake, and gay. The agency’s answer rejected the network’s attempt to turn the deportations into what the writer described as a sob story.
The response also fit the broader view of how conservatives should confront major media outlets. Rather than accept CBS News’ framing or offer a defensive apology, ICE challenged the network directly and mocked the premise of its coverage.
The article characterized CBS and the wider media as corrupt and dishonest, praising ICE for pushing back rather than allowing the segment to stand unanswered. Its central complaint was that “60 Minutes” highlighted the immigration judges’ rulings without giving proper weight to the fact that the United States transferred the illegal aliens to Ghana.
Under that account, Ghana made the later decision to return 17 individuals to their respective home countries. The source therefore treated CBS News’ suggestion of an American violation as misleading because the United States did not directly conduct those final removals.
The piece offered no patience for claims that the deportation process was unfair, especially after illegal aliens were offered paid self deportation to destinations of their choosing. Its position was that those who declined that opportunity could hardly complain when immigration laws were later enforced.
