Spencer Pratt claims James Talarico is in a mental health facility as questions mount over the Texas Democratic Senate nominee’s prolonged absence from the campaign trail. The allegation remains unverified, and Pratt attributed the information to unnamed sources.
The claim landed as Talarico’s campaign activity came under mounting scrutiny during the closing weeks of the Senate contest. His campaign, however, says he has the flu and expects him to return to the trail this weekend.
“My sources are telling me Talarico is in a mental health facility. His campaign has stopped actively planning events in the vital homestretch of the campaign,” Pratt wrote.
Pratt’s post placed a serious allegation into an already heated political fight, but no named source was offered to support it. The claim therefore stands in direct contrast with the public explanation offered by Talarico’s campaign.
President Donald Trump had previously questioned Talarico’s whereabouts following a Wednesday campaign appearance with Talarico’s Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, in San Antonio. Trump also called for the Democrat to debate Paxton.
Pratt sharply criticized the people managing Talarico’s campaign, accusing them of pushing the candidate too far. At the same time, he urged compassion if the Democratic nominee is experiencing a genuine crisis.
“If this is true, this is actually a time to pray for Talarico. We should, of course, savagely mock his smug, awful campaign advisors, by all means…and while yes, of course, this would be disqualifying for Talarico’s aspirations to be a Texas Senator, we must hold empathy for anyone undergoing crisis.”
That message mixed raw political criticism with a warning against treating a possible health crisis as just another campaign spectacle. Pratt made clear that he opposes Talarico politically while arguing that personal harm should not become the desired path to victory.
Talarico’s campaign has maintained that the candidate is suffering from the flu. It says he plans to return to campaign events this weekend, an explanation that has not stopped Republicans from pressing for more answers about his absence.
The absence has also generated private concerns among members of a volunteer group supporting Talarico’s Senate campaign. Those concerns appeared in messages obtained by the New York Post.
In another passage, Pratt wrote, “Campaigns are brutal, and not everybody is cut out for it. You need very thick skin. As much as I don’t want Talarico anywhere near government, I also don’t wish him harm, and no political office is worth having a breakdown. His awful advisors are at fault for this. They pushed him to be something he isn’t, and it didn’t work.”

Talarico publicly discussed his apparent illness during a Sept. 30 virtual appearance with the U.S. Hispanic Business Council. He said he had received a flu diagnosis at a Dallas urgent care clinic the previous night.

That account gives the campaign a stated reason for his disappearance from in-person events. Still, the length of the absence has allowed questions to persist as the race moves through its final weeks.
Republicans have continued applying pressure over the missing campaign appearances. Trump’s demand for a debate with Paxton has added another challenge for Talarico as his campaign insists that illness, rather than some unexplained political retreat, is keeping him away.
Pratt’s post did not provide documentation or identify the sources behind the mental health facility claim. He framed the allegation conditionally and repeatedly emphasized that he hoped the information was not true.
“I’m praying that this isn’t true, and he’s OK. You want to win these fights on the battlefield of ideas, not the minefield of poor health.”
What is happening in Texas is not normal.
James Talarico has now been missing for 13 days. Everyone is demanding proof of life as even his own campaign staff are starting to panic. Spencer Pratt and Elon Musk think he might be in a mental hospital after having a breakdown. No one believes this is just "the flu". When Trump didn't do a press conference over a holiday weekend, the left said he "died". Talarico goes missing for 13 days and they want to elect him to the Senate. For now, the public record presented by the campaign remains its flu explanation and promised weekend return. Pratt’s unverified claim, Trump’s questions, and concerns among some volunteers have ensured that Talarico’s whereabouts remain a central issue around the Senate campaign.
The next development identified by Talarico’s own campaign is his planned return to the trail this weekend. Until then, his absence continues to draw scrutiny from Republicans demanding that he reappear and face Paxton on the debate stage.
