Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, posted a video Friday showing herself walking beside a Minnesota lake with her husband while a Somali song played in the background. Translated lyrics obtained by the Washington Free Beacon describe humiliating enemies and making them suffer and cry.

The 27 second clip features Omar walking with her husband, Tim Mynett. The accompanying song is “Nimaan Ciilayba Icaaya” by Somali rapper Ilkacase Qays and singer Hodan Abdirahman.

“Less scrolling, more strolling. Enjoying our beautiful Minnesota lakes,” Omar wrote. Her cheerful caption did not mention President Donald Trump or identify any person as the target of the song.

The Free Beacon interpreted Omar’s musical selection as a swipe at Trump amid federal investigations involving her immigration records and financial disclosures. The outlet said it commissioned a certified English translation of the Somali lyrics.

The translated words are considerably more combative than Omar’s breezy lakeside caption. They describe strength, confrontation, sleeplessness, suffering and a defeated opponent crying in anger.

“The almighty has given me strength,” the translated lyrics read. “If I confront you in the afternoon, by evening, I will teach you a lesson and keep you awake throughout the night. Yes, you will suffer and cry in seething. You will scream like a demon.”

Another passage issues a challenge to the singer’s opponents and portrays enemies as powerless. The lyrics also assert control over the land while warning anyone who might pose a threat.

“Let me show you who I am. No enemy dares to threaten me,” the song continues, according to the translation. “Let the enemies die of seething. We are the ones who rule this land.”

The Free Beacon also reported that the translated lyrics include references to subjugating and humiliating enemies. Those statements came from the song playing in the video, not from remarks Omar personally delivered during the clip.

Omar has appeared publicly with both performers before, according to the Free Beacon. Footage uploaded to YouTube shows her singing and dancing with Qays and Abdirahman during a gathering in May.

She also was filmed dancing beside Qays at the Somali Global Awards in Minneapolis in June. The earlier appearances established that Omar had previously shared public events with the artists featured in her Friday video.

The post arrived less than two weeks after Homeland Security Investigations agents searched Omar’s Washington, DC, home on October 12. The Justice Department confirmed that investigators conducted the search with court authorization as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.

Investigators are examining whether Omar or her late father submitted inaccurate information on immigration documents. The inquiry reportedly includes questions about her birth date and whether she qualified to obtain citizenship through her father’s naturalization in 2000.

Omar has denied wrongdoing. A court filing identified her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”

That wording alone does not establish the longstanding allegation that Omar married her brother. Omar has repeatedly denied that allegation as questions concerning her identity and immigration records have continued.

Trump addressed the court filing Thursday while speaking at a rally in Sioux City, Iowa. He said House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, should be informed about the filing and argued that Omar should leave Congress.

“So it’s not looking good, because she used a fake name to be sworn in. I assume she must immediately have to resign from Congress,” Trump said. Omar’s video followed with a serene Minnesota setting, a casual caption and a soundtrack carrying a far sharper message.
