WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Nicole Kidman remains highly visible at 59 through “Lioness,” “Discretion,” “Scarpetta,” Chanel, and several returning television roles.
  • A Hollywood source criticized differing reactions to the opening weekends of “Practical Magic 2” and Brad Pitt’s “Heart of the Beast.”
  • Kidman surpassed her Cannes pledge by collaborating with 19 female filmmakers over eight years.
  • Her career momentum continued despite her divorce from Keith Urban and the emotional upheaval that followed.

At 59, Nicole Kidman is charging toward 60 with a packed schedule, major fashion visibility and no apparent interest in slowing down. Following her 2025 split from Keith Urban, the Oscar winner has remained firmly in Hollywood’s spotlight.

Kidman stars in the third season of Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series “Lioness” and is filming the thriller “Discretion” for the streamer. She will also reprise her role in the HBO hit “Nine Perfect Strangers” and serves as the face of Chanel.

She has already filmed a second season of the Amazon Prime series “Scarpetta” and is set to return for a fourth season of “Lioness.” In that series, she plays Kaitlyn Meade, a senior CIA official and Clandestine Service supervisor overseeing the Lioness Engagement Team led by Zoe Saldaña’s character.

Her latest run has also placed her at the center of a debate over how Hollywood evaluates projects led by women. A Tinseltown source criticized the industry response to “Practical Magic 2,” which stars Kidman alongside Sandra Bullock and was directed by frequent collaborator Susanne Bier.

“All of the trades [magazines] slated it because it opened at $30 million,” the source told Page Six. The source contrasted that reaction with the celebration surrounding Brad Pitt’s “Heart of the Beast,” which opened with $20 million.

“Heart of the Beast” has since surpassed “Practical Magic 2” at the box office, earning $156 million worldwide compared with $105 million. Tom Cruise’s “Digger,” meanwhile, made $8 million during its opening weekend on Oct. 2.

According to the source, the broader issue is Hollywood’s continuing difficulty taking projects led by women and female audiences seriously. Kidman has made advancing women behind the camera a visible part of her career.

At the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, she publicly pledged to work with a female director at least once every 18 months. She later surpassed that goal by collaborating with 19 female filmmakers over eight years.

Industry insiders told Page Six that Kidman has worked with a woman director 67 times across television, films and shorts. Those collaborations include her work as an actor, producer and executive producer.

“As a woman in this industry, if you have a little power, if you have the chance to get something greenlit, if you have the chance to say who you want to direct it, if you go, ‘I want a female to do this,’ that will help,” Kidman said at a Variety event in 2018.

Bier described Kidman’s magnetism in striking terms while speaking to British Vogue. “She is the ultimate seducer — and I don’t mean that in a sexual way.”

Kidman’s cultural reach has even extended to music. Adéla’s song “Nicole Kidman,” released in September, went viral, reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to No. 1 on the US Spotify charts.

Ethan Alter, deputy editor of Gold Derby, said Kidman understands that modern celebrity requires more than movie stardom. He credited her ability to embrace television, production and the viral nature of social media while retaining the self-awareness and authenticity that appeal to younger audiences.

Alter also pointed to Kidman’s widely seen AMC advertisement, which welcomed audiences back to theaters following the COVID pandemic. The campaign kept her face visible at multiplexes even when she was not appearing in the films being shown.

Her professional momentum has continued despite the collapse of her 19-year marriage to Urban. Kidman filed for divorce in September 2025, and the divorce was finalized in January, with Kidman receiving sole custody of their daughters, Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15.

The breakup reportedly surprised and devastated Kidman. Speaking to British Vogue, she acknowledged that her expected future had changed, but described the need to move forward simply: “You have to adjust. You adapt.”

A source said Urban did not want to promote Kidman’s 2024 film “Babygirl” alongside her, despite her praise and Golden Globe nomination. Another source defended her adventurous choices, saying, “Nicole is a risk-taker — look at ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ with Tom Cruise, that’s who she is.”

Friends portrayed Kidman as relentlessly resilient, recalling that she continued promoting “Babygirl” after losing her mother and returned to public view to support “Scarpetta” during her split. In October 2025, she appeared with her daughters at a Chanel show after being unveiled as the fashion house’s global ambassador.

Kidman’s circle includes Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern, but a longtime friend said her Nashville home and motherhood remain central. Sunday Rose is pursuing modeling and wants to direct, while Faith Margaret has accompanied Kidman to red carpets and fashion shows.

Despite more than four decades of work, the longtime friend described Kidman as humble and deeply moved by the support she received after her divorce. Her response to that attention, according to the friend, was characteristically understated: “Why do they care about me?”
