Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is opening up about President Donald Trump, her demanding role in the administration, and the difficult decision to leave the White House for more time with her children, as reported by Fox News.

During a candid Instagram question-and-answer session while traveling Wednesday, the 29-year-old mother of two fielded questions from followers about Trump’s personality, her career plans and family life.

Leavitt offered a warm assessment when asked whether Trump was nice or kind. Her answer highlighted a side of the president that she said the media does not present to the public.

“People don’t see this side of him because the media doesn’t show it, but he has been nothing but kind and uplifting to me, even since departing,” she continued. “He’s also hilarious. Love him!”

Leavitt served as White House press secretary from January 2025 until August 2026. She made history as the youngest person to hold the position, but ultimately left the administration to spend more time with her children.

One follower asked about Leavitt landing another job after leaving the White House. She responded by drawing a sharp distinction between the intense demands of serving as press secretary and her current schedule at home.

“As Press Sec, I was working in the office 60+ hours a week, traveling the world, and always on call 24/7,” she said. “Now, I am home with my kids every day and doing some TV hits. These things are not the same, ma’am.”

Those television appearances are about to become a more formal part of Leavitt’s professional life. She confirmed that she will officially begin working as a Fox News Channel contributor next month.

“I will be officially joining Fox News as a TV Contributor on November 1st, so I will continue making appearances on various shows!” she wrote.

FOX News Media CEO Suzanne Scott announced Leavitt’s new role earlier this month. Leavitt is expected to provide commentary across the network’s programming, extending her public presence after her departure from the White House.

Her career in Republican politics began well before her tenure behind the White House briefing room podium. Leavitt worked during Trump’s first administration as a presidential writer and assistant press secretary.

She later ran for Congress as a Republican in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District in 2022. Leavitt also served as communications director for Rep. Elise Stefanik while Stefanik was chair of the House Republican Conference.

Asked what advice she would offer to people seeking careers in politics or public relations, Leavitt emphasized the value of gaining practical experience before graduating from college.

“My advice to people who want to get into politics or comms is to get real-world experience when you're in college,” she said. “You'll be taught a lot of things in the classroom, but work experience is where you're really going to learn the game.”

Leavitt said she interned at NBC Sports Boston when she was considering a career as a sideline sports reporter. She also worked at a local news station before eventually securing an internship at the White House.

“Just try to apply for internships, say yes to every opportunity that you can, and don't spend your summers hanging out; spend your summers working and gaining that real-world experience, which will help you later in your career.”

The former press secretary also gave followers an unvarnished glimpse of motherhood when asked how she spends her free time. Her answer made clear that caring for two young children leaves little room for leisurely breaks.

“I don't have free time. As a mom of two littles, I'm lucky if I can take a shower in peace. But it's the season of life I'm in and I wouldn't have it any other way!!!!”
