Jimmy Kimmel’s interview with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani unfolded less like a serious conversation and more like an extended celebration, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

Instead of challenging the mayor, Kimmel repeatedly applauded his approach and eventually floated the idea of Mamdani taking charge of Los Angeles.

Before bringing out Mamdani, Kimmel played a montage featuring conservative media personalities warning about what could happen to New York if Mamdani were elected.

The overwhelmingly friendly audience then greeted the mayor with a loud and enthusiastic ovation.

Kimmel treated that reception as evidence of Mamdani’s performance in office. “I think this means you’re doing a good job.”

The line immediately established the accommodating tone that would define the rest of the exchange.

The host then compared the reception with what he believes the mayor of Los Angeles would receive. “I have to tell you, I live in Los Angeles, and that is not the reception our mayor would get.”

Kimmel followed the praise with a joking question framed around the dire warnings included in the earlier conservative media montage.

“So, how is the complete and total destruction of New York going?”

Mamdani replied that the destruction was proceeding as planned, playing along with Kimmel’s sarcastic setup.

Rather than moving into a difficult examination of the mayor’s record, the conversation quickly returned to Kimmel’s admiration for Mamdani and his governing approach.

Kimmel credited the mayor with following through on the agenda he presented. “This is really, I think you’ve taken an interesting tack.”

His comments portrayed Mamdani as unusually committed to carrying out his stated plans.

The praise continued as Kimmel contrasted Mamdani with other mayors.

“It’s what you said you were going to do, but, you know, most of the time mayors don’t do what they say they were planning to do.”

Kimmel described Mamdani’s priorities as basic and sensible rather than radical or complicated. “And you focus on really, I think, simple, common-sense things.”

That assessment came without any visible attempt to challenge the mayor’s claims or test the broader implications of his policies.

Potholes became one of Kimmel’s main examples. “Like, we talked about the potholes, obviously, you filled a lot of those potholes.”

The host used the subject to draw another flattering comparison between Mamdani and former Mayor Adams.

Kimmel wondered whether Adams regretted failing to make the same choice.

“Do you think Mayor Adams goes, ‘Why didn’t I fill the potholes? That would have been a good idea.’” The question continued the segment’s playful and approving treatment of Mamdani.

The host also praised what he called Mamdani’s creative ideas. “You have creative ideas that seem to be successful so far.”

He specifically pointed to the parents’ night out idea as another example worthy of approval.

The admiration eventually extended beyond New York.

Kimmel invited Mamdani to return to Los Angeles and “be our mayor,” turning the interview into something resembling a recruiting pitch rather than a demanding conversation with a powerful elected official.

For a host who presents himself as willing to confront powerful figures, the segment showed a dramatically different posture.

Kimmel was not grilling Mamdani or pressing him on potential failures. He was offering compliments, jokes, applause, and an invitation to lead another major city.

The broader criticism is that Jimmy Kimmel Live! has moved far beyond entertainment and into nightly left-wing politics.

In this interview, Kimmel behaved less like an independent host and more like an enthusiastic supporter determined to present Mamdani as a success.

That favorable framing also serves a larger political narrative surrounding Democratic Socialism.

The liberal media, according to the criticism presented, needs Mamdani to succeed so it can portray that governing philosophy as effective, and Kimmel’s glowing interview fit comfortably within that effort.
