Former Democratic National Committee fundraiser Lindy Li says Ashley Biden threatened legal action after Li publicly discussed internal Democratic conversations about former President Joe Biden’s cognitive and political decline during the 2024 presidential election, as reported by Fox News.

Ashley Biden is the daughter of Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

Li, who changed her party affiliation after warning signs about Biden’s condition went unheeded, said the threat appeared on Ashley Biden’s Instagram account in February of last year.

She described the warning as an effort to frighten her after she began speaking publicly.

Li joined "Fox News Sunday" to discuss her departure from the Democratic Party and her book about party leadership.

Her account centers on the fear, disorganization, and secrecy that she says surrounded Biden’s decision to pursue reelection despite concerns about his age.

"They wanted to scare me. That was the goal," Li told Fox News Digital. She said the Instagram post was among multiple attempts to intimidate her after she decided to disclose what had taken place within the party.

According to Li, the warnings about Biden’s decline failed to change the party’s course before she spoke publicly. Once she did, she said her relationships and access connected to her fundraising role changed immediately.

Li also argued that the threats never becoming reality showed that even her critics recognized the validity of her testimony.

The threatened courtroom clash, in other words, produced plenty of Instagram bravado but no actual lawsuit.

Li recounts Ashley Biden’s warning in her book, "Unburdened." Her description offered a cutting assessment of the tone behind the threatened legal fight.

"Ashley later threatened to sue me for saying there was a cover-up of her father’s decline, lashing out on Instagram with a bravado so crude it bordered on parody: ‘This woman is a bonavide [sic] liar. Karma is a real bad b*tch, Lindy,’" she wrote.

"’I don’t know you but can’t wait to meet your a** in court. Ready for a lawsuit? Let’s go! I won’t put up with this BS anymore.’"

During her interview, Li showed Fox News Digital screenshots of the post and said it was removed one day later. She also questioned Ashley Biden’s claim that she did not know her.

Li said she had met Ashley Biden on multiple occasions. She shared photographs of the two women together with Fox News Digital as evidence of those encounters.

Li had served as a top fundraiser for both Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris. Her position put her in close contact with major donors, prominent party members and the Democratic National Committee, but she said retaliation began immediately when she went public.

"When I went on Shannon’s show to say Biden needs to step aside — and three hours later he did — my access immediately vanished, and all my fears about speaking up were justified," Li told Fox News Digital.

"I knew that if I spoke up my life would be ruined and frankly, in that respect, it was. I was never invited to the White House again, never spoke to Biden again."

"Prior to that, I was invited to the White House every two to three weeks. There was always some event."

Li took Ashley Biden’s threat to her legal representation, but her lawyers dismissed the likelihood of a lawsuit.

They said the Bidens would probably seek to avoid a painful disclosure battle that could bring additional details about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline into public view.

"My lawyer’s eyes lit up: ‘You want her to use you. The discovery would be incredible,’" she recalled. "Truth, after all, remains the strongest shield against defamation."

Li maintained that her public statements were accurate and said she was still waiting for an explanation of what could support legal action. The threatened case has not materialized.

"Everything I said was true so... I’m still waiting to hear exactly what I said that is legally actionable," Li said. Representation for Ashley Biden did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
